That means it takes power from the car battery which may worry some people, so it is recommended that the engine of the car is running when you are using the air compressor, with the alternator recharging the car battery you will guarantee that you will not over tax your car battery.
There are times though when you may not have access to your car battery given the motor rating of 12V DC at 120W you could run this compressor using a jump starter with has a 12V accessory plug.
