Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you use an impact wrench?

A: You absolutely positively can use an impact wrench IF, and only IF, the impact wrench uses less CFM than the compressor can supply. I doubt that any 1 or 3/4-inch impact wrench would work. Some 1/2-inch impact wrenches may work.

Look at the air specification requirements on your impact wrench and compare them to this compressor specifications.

Q: Is it possible to lay down the compressor in use?

A: Since this innovative compressor design has no need for an oil sump, which would be the normal limiting factor in spacial orientation, I would say there should be no problem, at least in the short term. However, I've not seen any compressor/tank assembly configurations offered by this manufacturer other than this one so there may be some obscure component part that likes its gravity served in a specific direction, violation of that condition possibly leading to premature wear of that part. The manufacturer does make other tank/compressor configurations which may be better suited to your needs. Its a good little compressor, unbelievably quiet. A little top heavy in this configuration - you want to make sure not to give a blind yank on the air hose, as it wouldn't take much to tip it over.

Q: How long will it hold at max 120 PSI pressure before it kicks in again?

A: Depends on a few things. First, where you set the low pressure triggering mechanism. Typically it will automatically trigger to re pressurize at around 80 PSI, but you can adjust this if you need to maintain a different pressure minimum. Also, the amount of time specifically that it will hold ANY pressure level at all will greatly depend on the extent of the leaks in your system. If you use a retractable hose reel, they almost always leak, so it could hold max pressure for a few hours, a few days, or only a few minutes.

Q: Is this compressor safe for a breathable air source?

A: Definitely Not!! The oil in the air when compressed is toxic. The air from a breathing air compressor is scrubbed through special filters to remove the carbon monoxide and oils. This, nor any other "shop" air compressor, is capable of doing that. I realize this is an old post, but it's worth answering again as breathing from a shop air compressor is very dangerous.

Verdict

The California Air Tools 10020c Quiet Air Compressor in my opinion is an all round great air compressor, with it's low energy requirements even during the starting, it will consume low power, leading itself to less wear and lower noise because of it's consumption of low energy.

With a tank capacity of 10 gallons, and a life cycle before wear of 3000 plus hours it makes it perfect home handy men and professionals alike, and thanks to it's oil free pump working at different temperatures is not a problem.

The California Air Tools 10020c Quiet Air Compressor is specifically designed for those people who are looking forward to an air compressor that is a Quiet with better airflow, high power, less maintenance and service but maintaining high efficiency.

So if you need an air compressor that won't upset the tranquility of your work space, is large enough for most day to day tasks, yet small enough to be taken from job site to job site then the California Air Tools 10020c Quiet Air Compressor is the compressor for you.
